Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis TableIn this post, we will be reviewing the Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table, weighing up the pros and cons of buying one and making a few other suggestions. In this review, we will be looking at the following factors…

  1. Features
  2. Price
  3. Customer Satisfaction
  4. Recommendations
  5. The Final Word

1. Features

The Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table features a 5/8 inch (16mm) MDF thick playing surface, powder coated legs to avoid rusting and adjustable legs for uneven playing surfaces. The rubber levelers and wheels prove a great finish avoiding damage to your floors and quiet transport. It has a playback feature (meaning you can put half of the table up to hit against – if you want to). And it can also be stored away very compact.

The table also comes in 3 different colorways – Black, White and Blue. The repeat roller finish on the playing surface provides a durable table top with less glare. Everything is looking great so far.

16mm Table Top

Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis TableOne of the weaknesses we found in the Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table is the table top. Having a 16mm one gives you a lower bounce and slower play compared to the thicker tables out there. We noticed the bounce on this table is consistent but lacks a “true” bounce.

Ben talk’s a lot more about the importance of table thickness in his comprehensive article The Best Table Tennis Tables but, in short, competition tables are 25mm thick and you really need a table to be 19mm thick in order to get a “decent” bounce.

If you are just looking for a table to use for a bit of fun, recreational table tennis, and maybe a bit of training here and there, then getting the Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table would be a good choice. However, if you are used to playing on “proper” tables, or planning on learning how to play table tennis at a club or perhaps playing competitively, then a 16mm table might not meet your standards.

The Net

Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis TableThe Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table comes with a great net. It would be useless to spend money on a decent table and play with a rubbish net. The Killerspin net and post set hold the two pieces of the table together at the center. It clamps on with precision and holds the two pieces together firmly. Also, the adjustable tension makes for one of the better net systems we have seen out there.

Added Extras

Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis TableThe Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table comes with pockets, as you can see in its name, on both ends of the table. Each pocket holds a bat and 8 regulation balls. We found this a great addition to the package as you can focus more on play and avoid the hassle of having to run everywhere for the ball after each point. When storing the table the pockets are great for storing your bats and balls so the next time you play you will know exactly where they are.

2. Price

The other weakness of the Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table would have to be its price. Costing you $699.00 its not exactly a cheap table… and it only has 16mm playing surface. In the under $1000 price range there are a lot of different tables that offer you a thicker playing surface for a “truer” bounce.

We do love the table and the experience it gives you in play, but honestly it is a bit overpriced for its specs…

3. Customer Satisfaction

There haven’t been that many reviews on Amazon.com, but they have all turned out great. Here are some things the customers had to say…

“Wow am I glad we paid the extra money to get this model. It is VERY WELL BUILT!”

“I paid extra for the black which matches my home interior much better than a big blue table, the black just works better for me. I am 100% happy with this product. The kids love it and it gets the entire family jumping up and down.”

“Awesome table. Easy set up, 15 minutes max. Super easy to fold up.”

4. Recommendations

Is this the right table for you?

If you are simply looking for a modern designed table for recreational play…

Get the Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table. Its elegant design will compliment any home and it offers great play for your friends and family. It is on the pricey side, but it will give you what you pay for.

If you want a good value for money recreational table…

The Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table would be an over-priced option. We would recommend the Stiga Advantage which has a matching 16mm playing surface, for about half the price, sold on Amazon.com at $399.99 – it is the best value for money table out there!

If you need a table that is truly “competition-ready”…

You’ll need to invest in a table with at least a 22mm playing surface – and that is going to be a fair bit more expensive.

Our favourite 22mm table, at a reasonable price, is the Butterfly Match 22 Rollaway. For roughly $850 you can buy a high-performance table from the leading brand in table tennis. That’s only $150 more than the Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table. Something to think about.

5. The Final Word

The Killerspin MyT5 Pocket Table Tennis Table is a great all around table that will compliment most modern homes. It is great for recreational play and will give any family gathering a run for its money. For serious players or anyone looking for good value for money, you might be a bit disappointed.

Not sure if this table is the right one for you? No problem! You can check out all of our other table tennis table reviews here.
